MMS is All Heart!

It's been a GREAT first quarter at Mooresville Middle School! As you can see from the photos below, our Spirit Week was a very fun way to kick off Fall Break! We're incredibly proud of our students' achievements, our staff's hard work, and how our parents have supported our school.

Thank you so much and have a wonderful Fall Break, Red Imp community!

How to alert MMS of student absence:

The email address for parents to alert MMS about student absences is:

Parents can upload doctor's notes as well. This process helps to avoid lost excuse notes!
Ed. Opportunity request form
Note: Students may have up to a maximum of 3 days per school year excused to take advantage of valid educational opportunities. Prior approval from either the Principal is required. Absences that are classified as a valid educational opportunity will be coded as “excused” whereas others will be coded as “unexcused.”

To make a request for prior approval, submit the above form to the Principal two weeks before the absence(s). The student is responsible for completing all missed work in addition to submitting a Student Educational Assignment as approved by the Principal in order to have the
absence coded as “excused.” All projects are due within 5 days of the student’s return to school.

Updates to Attendance coding:

For MGSD, there is a new attendance code for early checkouts that will be going into effect soon:

  • 1P – Excused Early Checkout: A student leaves after the half-day mark for an appointment and provides a doctor's note on the next day the student is on campus.
  • 2P – Unexcused Early Checkout: A student leaves after the half-day mark but does not provide a doctor's note.
At Mooresville Middle School, our dismissal time is 2:55 p.m. Any student checkout before 2:55 p.m. will initially be coded as an unexcused early checkout (2P). If the student provides a doctor's note the following day, out data manager will update the code to an excused early checkout (1P).

*Reminder: our school day begins promptly at 7:55am. Students entering the building at 7:56am or later are assigned a code of Tardy for that day. Our MMS tardy to school policy is as follows:

1st, 2nd, & 3rd tardy = Parent Square message home + verbal reminder to student of tardiness
4th & 5th tardy = Lunch Detention with Parent Square notice to parent
6th tardy & beyond = Office Referral w/ 1 day ISS consequences
* tardy #7 and beyond restarts the 5-tardy cycle*

**Tardies to school reset to zero at the beginning of each quarter.

Support resources for Students + Families:

Counselor Request Form: We wanted to share the Request to See a Counselor form with parents. (Students will have access to this link in Canvas as well.). Once a student completes the form either Ms. White or Ms. Buff (school counselors) will have the student called to the office. We're here to help!

MMS Resources Form: There are several resources available to our students and families. If a student is in need of the following, a parent or guardian can complete the form linked above:
  • a weekend food bag,
  • a toiletry bag,
  • a birthday bag,
  • join Rainbow Kidz (grief counseling) - read more here, or
  • school-based therapy services (Children's Hope Alliance is the provider)
One big change this year is that we no longer have access to give out shoes to students. The program has been stopped at the company level. If this changes in the future, we will let you and parents know.

**Please message either Ms. White or Ms. Buff if you'd like help for your student / family in any of the above areas. We are here to help!
