IXL vocabulary bowl flyer for MMS

MMS is All Heart!

MMS families -- we’re taking on the IXL Vocabulary Bowl with a school-wide goal of 10,000 words mastered in one month! This worldwide competition by Vocabulary.com helps students build vocabulary to support reading, writing, and learning across subjects. 

You can help our school's efforts by encouraging 10–15 minutes of practice at home when possible, asking about new words your Red Imp is learning, and celebrating progress. Students can access Vocabulary.com through IXL’s Vocab Zone and use VocabTrainer or Practice. Every learner counts!

School Photos next week (Mon & Tue)

School picture day for Mooresville Middle School is next week on Monday & Tuesday between 8am - noon. Students will move as a class to get all students' pictures taken. Please plan for:

Monday, October 5 --> 7th grade (all) + 8th grade (Thunder & Trailblazers teams)

Tuesday, October 6 --> 6th grade (all) + 8th grade (Pirates team) + EC Learning Lab

Pamphlets were sent home on Thursday 10/1 with ordering information. You can order online at mylifetouch.com with the Picture Day ID: EVTSDG8R2

*make up fall picture day is Friday, November 13th*
 

Monday - MMS chick-fil-a night!

Red Imp families: please join members of the Red Imp staff for our first MMS Chick-fil-A spirit night of the year --- Monday, October 5th... that's next week!! 

Come visit Red Imp staff members at the CFA restaurant located at 457 River Highway (hwy 150) between 4 - 7:00pm. Our school earns a portion of the proceeds for all orders (even drive-thru!) so if you need dinner plans on Monday night & would like to support the MMS Red Imps,... EaT mOrE cHiKeN! See you there, Red Imp community!

Winter Sports tryout info:

Anyone wanting to participate in winter sports tryouts MUST first be enrolled in Final Forms. They must have a valid athletic physical (on the STATE required form) uploaded to the students Final Forms account *WE WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT PAPER COPIES OF ATHLETIC PHYSICALS*

If you are a fall athlete then you are required to come to 2 days of tryouts. Please talk with coaches or A.D. Hoppers to be able to attend. Your fall sport comes FIRST.

How to alert MMS of student absence:

The email address for parents to alert MMS about student absences is:


Parents can upload doctor's notes as well. This process helps to avoid lost excuse notes!
Ed. Opportunity request form
Note: Students may have up to a maximum of 3 days per school year excused to take advantage of valid educational opportunities. Prior approval from either the Principal is required. Absences that are classified as a valid educational opportunity will be coded as “excused” whereas others will be coded as “unexcused.”

To make a request for prior approval, submit the above form to the Principal two weeks before the absence(s). The student is responsible for completing all missed work in addition to submitting a Student Educational Assignment as approved by the Principal in order to have the
absence coded as “excused.” All projects are due within 5 days of the student’s return to school.

Come Support MMS Fall Athletes:

All are welcome to c'mon out to support our Red Imp spring sports athletes! The cost is $7 cash to attend any playoff game or you can also purchase tickets in advance by using this link (+$1 online service charge). Normal start time for fall events is 4:30pm. Here are the matchups scheduled for our Red Imp athletes next week:

Tue. Sept. 29 -- Softball + Football playoff games (TBD)
Wed., Sep. 30 -- Girls Tennis vs. Salisbury Academy (home)
Thur., Oct. 1 -- Boys Tennis vs. Kannapolis Middle (home)

Reminder: register for Infinite Campus Parent Portal

Reminder: Registration in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.  is required for all students attending Mooresville Graded School District this year. Future report cards, schedule changes, and progress reports for your student will require a Login to the Parent Portal to access.

Walking / Riding Home form
All students wishing to walk or ride bikes to / from school must have this parent permission form signed and submitted. Please print and return to the MMS main office.

Support resources for Students + Families:

Counselor Request Form: We wanted to share the Request to See a Counselor form with parents. (Students will have access to this link in Canvas as well.). Once a student completes the form either Ms. White or Ms. Buff (school counselors) will have the student called to the office. We're here to help! 

MMS Resources Form: There are several resources available to our students and families. If a student is in need of the following, a parent or guardian can complete the form linked above:
  • a weekend food bag,
  • a toiletry bag,
  • a birthday bag,
  • join Rainbow Kidz (grief counseling) - read more here, or
  • school-based therapy services (Children's Hope Alliance is the provider)
One big change this year is that we no longer have access to give out shoes to students. The program has been stopped at the company level. If this changes in the future, we will let you and parents know.
