We are #All Heart at Mooresville Middle!

August 28, 2026

MMS is All Heart!

Progress Reports were sent home TODAY! Be sure to check through your Parent Square messages to see your Red Imp's grades so far.

School policy is that students have 5 calendar days to submit missing work from the previous progress report. Six weeks are left before Q1 is in the books... students still have time to get grades back on track!

*6th grade parents: we understand the number of Canvas pages and blank grades are confusing with our Elective Wheel classes. We apologize and are hoping to find a solution soon. Please just focus on the two elective classes your child attended since school started and ignore the rest.

If you or your students have questions or concerns, please contact our administration team or call the MMS front office; thank you!

Mr. Kosal, MMS principal / 6th grade (pkosal@mgsd.k12.nc.us)
Dr. Browning, assistant principal / 7th grade (mbrowning@mgsd.k12.nc.us)
Mr. Bost, assistant principal / 8th grade (ronbost@mgsd.k12.nc.us)
Ms. Hoppers, athletic director (alexishoppers@mgsd.k12.nc.us)

Reminder: No School on Monday, September 6 (labor day holiday)

Making Transportation / Bus requests:

Attention: all transportation requests and changes must be submitted through each school's data manager to be entered into Infinite Campus. Requests will be processed and assigned in the order they are received. Please call the front office and ask for MMS data manager Ms. Cowan (704-658-2720), or email her instead (robincowan@mgsd.k12.nc.us)

All Transportation communication to families uses Parent Square, so be sure notifications are on. Please download the Here Comes The Bus app for students / parents on phones to see when buses are near their stop.

Requests submitted at this point in the year may take 3-5 days to process with the Transportation department. In those cases, families should be prepared to provide transportation for their child until a bus assignment can be established.

Walking / Riding Home form
All students wishing to walk or ride bikes to / from school must have this parent permission form signed and submitted. Please print and return to the MMS main office.

Support resources for Students + Families:

Counselor Request Form: We wanted to share the Request to See a Counselor form with parents. (Students will have access to this link in Canvas as well.). Once a student completes the form either Ms. White or Ms. Buff (school counselors) will have the student called to the office. We're here to help!

MMS Resources Form: There are several resources available to our students and families. If a student is in need of the following, a parent or guardian can complete the form linked above:
  • a weekend food bag,
  • a toiletry bag,
  • a birthday bag,
  • join Rainbow Kidz (grief counseling) - read more here, or
  • school-based therapy services (Children's Hope Alliance is the provider)
One big change this year is that we no longer have access to give out shoes to students. The program has been stopped at the company level. If this changes in the future, we will let you and parents know.

**Please message either Ms. White or Ms. Buff if you'd like help for your student / family in any of the above areas. We are here to help!

Attention rising 7th grade parents....

Your student is in need of a Meningitis vaccine and a Tetanus booster (Tdap) to start the 2026-2027 school year. There are two Meningitis vaccines available, Meningitis B is recommended while Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV) is required. The deadline to send proof of vaccination is the first day of the 2026-2027 school year.

This may seem like plenty of time to have this completed but please do not wait until August to get these immunizations as you may not be able to find them due to the number of people that wait until the last minute. We can not offer extensions for these circumstances.

If you think your student has already received this vaccine or you are unsure of their vaccination status, please contact your doctor’s office and ask for a copy of the student’s immunization record. Please submit it to the MMS front office as soon as possible.

There are several options for your student to receive these vaccines including the health department, primary care provider and some urgent care centers. Here is the link for Iredell county's Mobile Health Clinic. In the past, some locations did not update the NC Immunization Registry so please ask for paper documentation and turn them into the front office at MMS. Keep a copy for your records as well.

Lastly, this is a NC State Law to comply with vaccination requirements.  If your student does not have documentation of these required vaccinations within the first 30 days of school, your student can be excluded from school with unexcused absences until proof of immunization is received beginning September 4, 2026. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Nurse Crenshaw at MMS (lauracrenshaw@mgsd.k12.nc.us)

LOSS OF PRIVILEGE
When a student is placed on the Loss of Privilege list, that student is not allowed to participate in any after school or extracurricular activities including field trips, dances, and athletic events, both as a spectator or a participant.

To qualify for LOP, a student must be assigned Out of School Suspension (OSS) for any length of time, or In School Suspension (ISS) for three separate occasions during one quarter. Once a student is on LOP, their status on LOP remains for 45 days, after which the student is able to resume all activities.

Students are able to appeal their LOP status one time during the school year to try to resume activities quicker than the 45 days. The appeal process cannot begin until one week after the incident that placed the student on LOP status to allow the student time to reflect on the incident. After the week has passed, the student can begin the appeal process by submitting a letter explaining why they should be granted the appeal as well as a letter of recommendation from a current teacher who is not their coach. These two letters must be submitted to the grade-level administrator who will then review each situation independently and decide on a ruling. Please note that appeals are not automatically granted and they can take up to a week to process once students submit them.

Please contact your child's grade-level administrator with any questions you might have about LOP.
