It's been a GREAT start to the 2026-27 school year at Mooresville Middle!
Next Friday is a big week for MMS: our students begin Interventions / Enrichment during Tuesday's Imp Time, will attend their first self-selected Club Time on Friday, and also will have 20 minutes of D.E.A.R. time (drop everything and read) built into each Friday's schedule. Here's what parents should know:
- For D.E.A.R. time, all students are expected to have tactile reading material with them. Examples are books, magazines, newspapers, comic books, etc.
- Our ELA classes have already visited the Media Center, but students are always welcome to come during arrival time (7:35 - 7:55am), or by making an E-Hall Pass at an appropriate time.
- Students will receive emails at their school Gmail account to notify them of their assigned club and location before Friday.
- Interventions / Enrichment are based on previous Math & Reading needs, iReady diagnostic scores, previous years' EOG scores, and teacher input. Students that are AIG or enrolled in the Dual Immersion program (6th grade) also are assigned those enrichments.
If you or your students have questions or concerns, please contact our administration team or call the MMS front office; thank you!

The first home Mooresville High varsity Blue Devil football game is scheduled for Friday night at Coach Joe Popp Stadium! Due to the number of spectators expected, we hope that sharing the following information in advance can contribute to a smooth and fun game day experience for everyone!
- Tickets can be purchased in advance at GoFan. Those who purchase in advance will enter through the gate labeled "Home Pass/E Ticket Gate," which is the gate closest to the scoreboard side of the field.
- We are aware of the potential for varying weather conditions, and would like to proactively remind everyone that in the event of lightning, an announcement will be made and all spectators are to return to their vehicles.
Here is a reminder about MGSD protocols for home games:
- No elementary, intermediate, and middle school students will be allowed entrance to a home football game without a supervising adult. Students must be supervised throughout the game. If any elementary, intermediate, or middle school student is unsupervised at the game, the student’s parent/guardian will be contacted to pick them up.- Only medical, diaper, and clear stadium bags are permitted. Medical, diaper bags, and clear stadium bags will be subject to search.
- Walk through metal detectors will be utilized. If the detector alerts during your pass-through, we ask for your cooperation as we investigate what triggered the detector.
- For safety reasons, standing outside of the fence to watch the game is prohibited.
- As a reminder, alcohol, tobacco products and vape/e-cigarettes are prohibited.
- Only those with a specific parking pass and people with a handicap parking placard may park behind Magnolia Campus. Enter from Edgemoor Drive (behind the multipurpose field), NOT from Magnolia Street. All other spectators will park in any other lot on the MHS campus.
Be sure to check out our new Game Day at MHS site for information about single game tickets, season passes, media passes, and more!

Attention: all transportation requests and changes must be submitted through each school's data manager to be entered into Infinite Campus. Requests will be processed and assigned in the order they are received. Please call the front office and ask for MMS data manager Ms. Cowan (704-658-2720), or email her instead (robincowan@mgsd.k12.nc.us)
All Transportation communication to families uses Parent Square, so be sure notifications are on. Please download the Here Comes The Bus app for students / parents on phones to see when buses are near their stop.
Requests submitted at this point in the year may take 3-5 days to process with the Transportation department. In those cases, families should be prepared to provide transportation for their child until a bus assignment can be established.

Counselor Request Form: We wanted to share the Request to See a Counselor form with parents. (Students will have access to this link in Canvas as well.). Once a student completes the form either Ms. White or Ms. Buff (school counselors) will have the student called to the office. We're here to help!
MMS Resources Form: There are several resources available to our students and families. If a student is in need of the following, a parent or guardian can complete the form linked above:
- a weekend food bag,
- a toiletry bag,
- a birthday bag,
- join Rainbow Kidz (grief counseling) - read more here, or
- school-based therapy services (Children's Hope Alliance is the provider)
One big change this year is that we no longer have access to give out shoes to students. The program has been stopped at the company level. If this changes in the future, we will let you and parents know.
**Please message either Ms. White or Ms. Buff if you'd like help for your student / family in any of the above areas. We are here to help!

Your student is in need of a Meningitis vaccine and a Tetanus booster (Tdap) to start the 2026-2027 school year. There are two Meningitis vaccines available, Meningitis B is recommended while Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV) is required. The deadline to send proof of vaccination is the first day of the 2026-2027 school year.
This may seem like plenty of time to have this completed but please do not wait until August to get these immunizations as you may not be able to find them due to the number of people that wait until the last minute. We can not offer extensions for these circumstances.
If you think your student has already received this vaccine or you are unsure of their vaccination status, please contact your doctor’s office and ask for a copy of the student’s immunization record. Please submit it to the MMS front office as soon as possible.
There are several options for your student to receive these vaccines including the health department, primary care provider and some urgent care centers. Here is the link for Iredell county's Mobile Health Clinic. In the past, some locations did not update the NC Immunization Registry so please ask for paper documentation and turn them into the front office at MMS. Keep a copy for your records as well.
Lastly, this is a NC State Law to comply with vaccination requirements. If your student does not have documentation of these required vaccinations within the first 30 days of school, your student can be excluded from school with unexcused absences until proof of immunization is received beginning September 4, 2026. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Nurse Crenshaw at MMS (lauracrenshaw@mgsd.k12.nc.us)

EMERGENCY DRILLS: FIRE, LOCK DOWN, and TORNADO
Fire drills are held monthly in order to help students learn proper safety measures and to practice moving in a quick and orderly manner to assigned safety areas in case of an emergency. Lock-down drills are held on a quarterly basis for the purpose of preparing students for other emergency situations where they remain in the building. Mooresville Middle School also participates in state and local tornado alerts annually in preparation for severe weather.
During all MMS drills, there will be NO TALKING and students must follow directions from adults. Teachers will lead students to their assigned safety area. It is our teachers' responsibility to inform students of safe and acceptable behavior during required school safety drills. It is the students' responsibility to take drills seriously and follow the directions of adults who are assigned to keep them safe.
LOST & FOUND
Articles found in the building and on campus are to be placed in the Lost & Found located on the back counter in the cafeteria. If a student loses something, they should check in the cafeteria first. Students are responsible for keeping up with personal items. Please do not leave clothing, books, phones, wallets, etc where someone might pick them up. Due to a constant build-up over time, items in the Lost & Found are donated to local organizations several times throughout the school year, usually at the end of each marking period. The office will make announcements prior to discarding items.

Parents, please always feel free to contact Principal Kosal, your student's grade level AP, or the MMS main office if you have questions or concerns. Have a great weekend, Red Imps!
