We are #All Heart at Mooresville Middle!

August 14, 2026

MMS is All Heart!

It's been a GREAT start to the 2026-27 school year at Mooresville Middle!

This week, our Administration team met with each grade level to outline MMS Policies and Expectations for behavior at our school. The topics came from common questions students had about MMS Student Handbook policies and rules. Some of the topics included:
  • Arrival / Dismissal procedures
  • Lunch procedures
  • Using E-Hall Pass to leave class
  • Importance of daily attendance & tardy policy
  • Athletic eligibility
  • Loss of Privilege
  • Consequences for vaping, fighting, horseplay, cell phone / airpods, drugs, weapons, etc.
If you or your students have questions or concerns about MMS policies / procedures, please email our administration team or call the MMS front office; thank you!

First School Dance -- tonight! 8/14/26

The first MMS school dance of the year happens tonight, August 14th, from 6 - 8:00pm in the MMS gymnasium! The theme of the first dance is Red Imp Spirit! -- wear MMS gear and school colors (red, white, black) to show your school spirit!

The cost to attend is $5 cash admission at the door, and cash concessions will be on sale all night also. Students should bring their Mooresville Middle ID cards to enter, but ID cards are not required for entry. Only MMS students may attend the dance for safety reasons.

** Parents: the dance ends promptly at 8:00pm. All students MUST be picked up by 8:15pm or they could wind up on the Loss of Privilege list for quarter #1.

We hope to see lots and lots of Red Imps at the year's first dance tonight!

Safety Notice: E-Bikes on MGSD campuses

Red Imp families: recently, the school leadership at Mooresville Intermediate and Rocky River Elementary have witnessed some E-Bikers riding between 3 - 4:00pm on the access road joining those schools to Kistler Farm Rd. We believe they are coming from MMS because of the time of day, age of the riders, and the MGSD backpacks.

Parents: if your students ride E-Bikes around the MMS campus, please remind your students they should not use the access road or bike around the intermediate and elementary schools until after 4:00 due to safety concerns.

We are very concerned for these riders because it’s during MIS and Rocky River’s dismissal for school and preschool. There is a great deal of car and bus traffic on that access road during those times. E-Bike riders are also reminded that they must observe all regular traffic laws, in general.

Thank you for your help keeping our students safe!

Making Transportation / Bus requests:

Attention: all transportation requests and changes must be submitted through each school's data manager to be entered into Infinite Campus. Requests will be processed and assigned in the order they are received. Please call the front office and ask for MMS data manager Ms. Cowan (704-658-2720), or email her instead (robincowan@mgsd.k12.nc.us)

All Transportation communication to families uses Parent Square, so be sure to have notifications turned on. It's also wise to download the Here Comes The Bus app for students / parents on their phone to see when buses are near their stop.

Requests submitted at this point in the year may take 3-5 days to process with the Transportation department. In those cases, families should be prepared to provide transportation for their child until a bus assignment can be established.

Parents: we'd love your input!

Parents / guardians of Red Imp students are needed to volunteer for both school and district committees. Please consider giving some time and input to help make your child's school better!

  • Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO): support MMS teachers and students by fund-raising and giving back for the school community (monthly + events throughout the year)
  • School Improvement Team (SIT): meet with Mooresville Middle administration, teachers, and staff to continually monitor progress towards this year's goals for improvement
  • MGSD Calendar Committee: meets 2-3 times per year to set the district's calendar for 2027-28 school year
  • MGSD Parent Advisory Committee: meets 2-3 times per year to collaborate with our Superintendent and District Leaders about the direction of our district

Support resources for Students + Families:

Counselor Request Form: We wanted to share the Request to See a Counselor form with parents. (Students will have access to this link in Canvas as well.). Once a student completes the form either Ms. White or Ms. Buff (school counselors) will have the student called to the office. We're here to help!

MMS Resources Form: There are several resources available to our students and families. If a student is in need of the following, a parent or guardian can complete the form linked above:
  • a weekend food bag,
  • a toiletry bag,
  • a birthday bag,
  • join Rainbow Kidz (grief counseling) - read more here, or
  • school-based therapy services (Children's Hope Alliance is the provider)
One big change this year is that we no longer have access to give out shoes to students. The program has been stopped at the company level. If this changes in the future, we will let you and parents know.

**Please message either Ms. White or Ms. Buff if you'd like help for your student / family in any of the above areas. We are here to help!

Attention rising 7th grade parents....

Your student is in need of a Meningitis vaccine and a Tetanus booster (Tdap) to start the 2026-2027 school year. There are two Meningitis vaccines available, Meningitis B is recommended while Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV) is required. The deadline to send proof of vaccination is the first day of the 2026-2027 school year.

This may seem like plenty of time to have this completed but please do not wait until August to get these immunizations as you may not be able to find them due to the number of people that wait until the last minute. We can not offer extensions for these circumstances.

If you think your student has already received this vaccine or you are unsure of their vaccination status, please contact your doctor’s office and ask for a copy of the student’s immunization record. Please submit it to the MMS front office as soon as possible.

There are several options for your student to receive these vaccines including the health department, primary care provider and some urgent care centers. Here is the link for Iredell county's Mobile Health Clinic. In the past, some locations did not update the NC Immunization Registry so please ask for paper documentation and turn them into the front office at MMS. Keep a copy for your records as well.

Lastly, this is a NC State Law to comply with vaccination requirements.  If your student does not have documentation of these required vaccinations within the first 30 days of school, your student can be excluded from school with unexcused absences until proof of immunization is received beginning September 4, 2026. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Nurse Crenshaw at MMS (lauracrenshaw@mgsd.k12.nc.us)

MMS Parent / Staff Handbook

We don't want your Red Imp to miss a thing!

(from the MMS Student / Parent Handbook) Arriving on time to school is very important. Students may enter our building beginning at 7:35am, and the tardy bell rings to start school rings promptly at 7:55 a.m.

Athletic / Band Equipment
Students dropping off their instruments or athletic equipment to their locker / band room upon arrival at school should do so prior to Homeroom / breakfast and then report promptly to their first period. They should not loiter in the hallways or locker rooms. An MMS staff member will be stationed by the front gym / concession stand entrance to allow for faster student drop-off of those items. *Parents dropping off students with equipment should park in the front lot to unload items rather than stopping the car-rider line traffic. Students can use the crosswalk when a staff members allows for safe crossing.

MMS Tardy to school Policy
Any student entering our building at 7:56am or later will be coded as Tardy to School. MGSD bus riders are, naturally, exempt from tardies if the bus itself is late to school. If parents wish to transport their child to school, it is their responsibility to ensure they arrive on time.

1st, 2nd, & 3rd tardy = Parent Square message home + verbal reminder to student of tardiness
4th & 5th tardy = Lunch Detention with Parent Square notice to parent
6th tardy & beyond = Office Referral w/ 1 day ISS consequences
* tardy #7 and beyond restarts the 5-tardy cycle*

Tardies to school reset to zero at the beginning of each quarter.
