The final MMS whole-school dance is happening tonight -- Friday, 4/10/26, from 6 - 8:00pm in the MMS gymnasium. Students should bring their Mooresville Middle ID cards for quickest entry. The cost is $5 admission at the door, and cash concessions will also be on sale all night long!
Students cannot be on the Loss of Privilege (LoP) list (i.e. no OSS, less than 3 ISS) if they wish to attend.
** Parents: the dance ends promptly at 8:00pm. All students MUST be picked up by 8:15pm or they might wind up on the Loss of Privilege list. Thanks in advance!

** Action needed: A New Way to Support Your Child on State Tests!
We are excited to share a new update about state testing that gives students an additional opportunity to be successful on their End-of Grade (EOG) or End-of-Course (EOC) Exams (Math I). We know that the EOG and EOC tests are important. We also know that sometimes, a single test day doesn't reflect everything your child has learned.
* A New Retest Opportunity: Starting this 2025-2026 school year, if a student is not proficient on their EOG or EOC test, they will have the chance to take it again.
This "retest" is a great second chance for them to show their skills and improve their score. This is especially helpful for high school courses (NC Math 1) where the test is required to count as 20% of the final grade. Retesting is a win-win opportunity because students get to keep the higher of the two scores. For your child to be able to use this retest opportunity, we must have your permission on file.
What to Do: If you would like your child to have this opportunity if needed, please complete this Google Form by April 8th, 2026: Opt-in Form *We encourage all parents to take advantage of this no-lose opportunity!!

8th graders' Course Verification Forms for MHS
Mooresville High School has mailed course verification forms to our 8th grade students. These forms must be reviewed, signed by both the parent/guardian and the student, and returned to school. Please note that all forms must be signed and returned, even if no course changes are being requested. Students should turn in their completed forms to their ELA teacher
If your student did not receive a course verification form, please have them report to the office so we can verify their address. Address verification is required before we can request a reprinted form from Mooresville High School.

8th Graders: Driver's Education information:
Parents of 8th graders: Your students received information this week about the upcoming summer Driver’s Education classes! Be sure to ask your child for the details. The information will be posted in your child's Canvas Driver's Edu course next week.
** The registration start date is Monday, April 13th at 8:00am. If your child is 14.5 years old by the start date of the summer class, this is a great opportunity to get their class done before the start of school and sports seasons. There will also be other classes throughout the school year.

MMS presents the 2026 8th Grade Semi-Formal: Golden Nights
Dear Students and Parents:
This year’s 8th grade semi-formal will be held on Friday, May 1st from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
We will host this event in the MMS Cafeteria and will have plenty of teachers and other staff members as chaperones that evening. This is a huge event for our 8th-grade students so we hope that everyone will come out and have a great night with all of their friends!
Some important information:

Tickets: on sale now through April 19th for $20 + April 20th-30th for $25
Entrance: Students will enter the dance through the back of the school near the cafeteria and next to the softball field. Students will need to bring their tickets and they will be checked in upon arrival. Tickets will be distributed on Friday May 1st during the school day. School Attendance: Students must attend school on Friday, May 1, 2026 in order to be admitted to the dance. Leaving Early: Students will not be permitted to leave the dance early. If there is an emergency and a student needs to leave, the parent must come to the school to pick up their child. Students may have their cell phones during the dance for communication with parents.
DRESS CODE
**If a student arrives at the dance in attire that does not meet the guidelines below, he/she will not be admitted to the dance. No refunds will be issued.**
*Dresses must be below fingertip length.
*The slit of a dress must also be below fingertip length.
*Dresses may not be extremely low cut front or back.
*Neither the front nor the back of the dress may be below the bra line.
*Collared shirts must be worn.
*Pants must be worn at the waist with a belt (jeans are not permitted).
*Ties are preferred but not required.
*Clothing may not have rips, tears, or holes

MHS travel club - 2028 Costa Rica trip
Good afternoon Mooresville families!
The MHS Travel Club is excited to announce our next international trip for Spring Break 2028 to COSTA RICA! This 10 day experience is designed for students who are ready to explore, try new things, and fully jump into an adventure. The trip is open to all current 7th–10th graders (Classes of 2028–2031).
After our last trip to Costa Rica, we came home knowing we wanted to go back. It’s one of those trips our students will be talking about for years to come, so we’ve decided to return. This time, we’ve adjusted the itinerary to make it even better.
What’s in store: Students will travel from the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific, exploring rainforests, volcanoes, and beaches along the way. Click here to see the planned itinerary.
- Adventure activities: whitewater rafting, ziplining, kayaking, and snorkeling
- Exploring the landscape: hiking near Arenal Volcano, visiting waterfalls, and a night walk in the rainforest
- Wildlife experiences: boat tours through the canals, national parks, and a visit to a rescue center
- Culture + food: a cooking experience, a chocolate tour, and time in natural hot springs

MGSD Transportation --> New email
MGSD now has a new email address for communication with the Transportation Department. This email address may be used by both staff and parents to contact our office. Effective immediately, we will only use bus@mgsd.k12.nc.us moving forward.
Please start using this address for all transportation-related communication. Of course, you can still email individual staff members within the department. We all have access to the new email account.

How to alert MMS of student absence:
The email address for parents to alert MMS about student absences is:

Parents can upload doctor's notes as well. This process helps to avoid lost excuse notes!

Note: Students may have up to a maximum of 3 days per school year excused to take advantage of valid educational opportunities. Prior approval from either the Principal is required. Absences that are classified as a valid educational opportunity will be coded as “excused” whereas others will be coded as “unexcused.”
To make a request for prior approval, submit the above form to the Principal two weeks before the absence(s). The student is responsible for completing all missed work in addition to submitting a Student Educational Assignment as approved by the Principal in order to have the
absence coded as “excused.” All projects are due within 5 days of the student’s return to school.
