What is Credit by Demonstrated Mastery?
Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) allows students to “test out” of certain high school courses where they have already mastered the content. Students who successfully complete both phases of the CDM process will receive “Pass” credit for the course on their transcript. Pass credits do not affect a student’s GPA, but do count toward required graduation credits.
The Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) Spring application window is now open for 7th-11th graders. For 7th graders, the options are Math 1 or Spanish 1. For 8th graders, they can request CDM for almost any 9th grade course. Students must complete this application and submit it to their counselor by Friday, Mar. 6.

Important: Annual Student Technology Fee Reminder for Students in grades 5 - 12
Hello MGSD families,
This is a friendly reminder for families of students in grades 5 – 12 regarding the annual $20 student technology fee. This fee covers the use and maintenance of your student's laptop each year.
How to Pay:
Online: Payments can be made quickly and securely through OSP (Online School Payments) at this link: https://osp.osmsinc.com/mgsd/. In-Person: Students may bring cash or a check directly to their school’s Help Desk.
Not sure if you’ve paid? If you are unsure of your payment status for the current school year, please reach out to your school’s Help Desk for verification.

JV Basketball Playoffs - next week!
All are welcome to c'mon out to support the JV Basketball teams as they roll on in the Conference Playoffs! The cost is $7 to attend any playoff game (+$1 online service charge), or you can also purchase tickets in advance by using this link.
Here are the matchups scheduled for our Red Imps next week:
Monday, Feb. 23 - JV Basketball, Final Four (girls, then boys) @ South Davie Middle
4:30pm for girls JV team; 6:00pm for boys JV team
Wednesday, Feb. 25 - JV Basketball FINAL begin (if the Red Imps advance on Monday) @ South Davie Middle

How to alert MMS of student absence:
The email address for parents to alert MMS about student absences is:
MMSAttendance@MGSD.k12.nc.us
Parents can upload doctor's notes as well. This process helps to avoid lost excuse notes!

Note: Students may have up to a maximum of 3 days per school year excused to take advantage of valid educational opportunities. Prior approval from either the Principal is required. Absences that are classified as a valid educational opportunity will be coded as “excused” whereas others will be coded as “unexcused.”
To make a request for prior approval, submit the above form to the Principal two weeks before the absence(s). The student is responsible for completing all missed work in addition to submitting a Student Educational Assignment as approved by the Principal in order to have the
absence coded as “excused.” All projects are due within 5 days of the student’s return to school.
