Recognitions

Student of the Month

Each month the Board of Education recognizes a student who makes an impact at their school in a special way. These students also lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the meeting.

Julian Hall, who goes by JuJu, is a senior at NF Woods who has worked extremely hard in order to graduate early. He has demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination to overcome many obstacles while in high school. Through it all, JuJu has maintained excellent grades, perfect attendance and positive relationships with teachers and peers.

In addition to his academic success, JuJu has successfully managed the demands of a
job, showcasing his strong work ethic and time management skills. In times of hardship, JuJu persevered and will graduate with his high school diploma in December.

Artist of the Month

MGSD believes the arts are an important aspect of developing the whole child. We enjoy the opportunity to honor an Artist of the Month at our Board of Education meetings each month.

Taylor Roesch was nominated as our Artist of the Month because of the positivity and excitement that she brings to our Art Appreciation classroom. In addition to being a creative and inspiring artist, she is always willing to help and inspire other students in our class.

Taylor is a senior at NF Woods and is planning to attend college next fall. In addition to visiting colleges, she also works part-time while maintaining an A average in all of her classes. Taylor also serves as the student representative on the NF Woods School Improvement Team.

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD) Award

MGSD loves recognizing those employees who go Above and Beyond the Call of Duty for our children by representing our core values.

Ms. Shirley Black has transformed the office at NF Woods to an extremely professional environment all the while displaying a nurturing presence to students and families.

Her commitment to building authentic relationships with the students has enabled her to manage the flow of the office by meeting student needs and aiding admin staff. Ms. Black's ability to establish trust with staff while being the smiling frontline face of our Woods office makes the day run a little smoother.

Ms. Black also has a work ethic that leads to her jumping in and helping with anything that needs to be done. Her attention to detail with all our safety needs helps the campus as a whole.

Spotlight on People

Each month the Mooresville Graded School District shines the Spotlight on staff, students, and community members for outstanding contributions to creating a better community!

The MGSD Board of Education was recently awarded the Gold Bell Award by the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA). This award is for training excellence and commitment during the 2024-25 academic year.

The Gold Bell award is the highest professional development honor available to boards of education and recognizes that all five board members have met or exceeded the association's highest standard for completion of training. This achievement reflects our school board’s dedication to excellence, continuous
learning, and effective governance. Their commitment to professional growth ensures
strong leadership for our district and better outcomes for the students, staff, and families we serve.

We congratulate our MGSD Board of Education for this outstanding accomplishment, and thank them for their continued service and support of public education!
