Mooresville Middle School

A Message from Mr. Kosal:

MMS is All Heart! Greetings, Red Imp families! This is Mr. Patrick Kosal, your proud MMS principal. It was truly a GREAT week to be a Red Imp! This past Wednesday, the state of North Carolina released its school report card and student growth data from the 2024-25 school year.... and Mooresville Middle School continues to raise the bar! Our school's student growth metric was +7.67 for last year, which is more than triple the line for NC's Exceeding Student Growth label (anything over +2.0)! MMS is...

  • top 3% of all NC schools for student growth
  • #2 of any school in Iredell County for student growth
  • #1 middle school in Iredell County for student growth
  • #5 in Math student growth for the entire state of NC (2,000+ schools)

This feedback confirms that Red Imp students are growing academic leaps and bounds from where they were projected to in the past. Our AMAZING teachers and staff are doing such incredible work each day to make school interesting, challenging, and supportive for all types of learners at MMS. And our AWESOME students have bought into the #All Heart philosophy by putting hard work into academics, athletics, performances, and treating each other with respect, dignity, and kindness.

We have so much to be proud of here at Mooresville Middle! Parents / guardians: thank you for all of your amazing support! We at MMS will continue to work hard each day to set the bar even higher! Here's what you'll find in this week's newsletter:

Important Reminder Regarding Student ID Badges:

Student ID badges are an essential part of daily school life, enabling students to quickly access essential services like purchasing lunch, using our library, and entering school-sponsored functions. Please ensure your child keeps their ID badge in a safe place.

* All new-to-MMS students (including this year's 6th graders) received an ID badge free of charge. However, in the event that a student's ID badge is lost or damaged, a replacement can be obtained for a fee of $2.00. This fee helps cover the cost of producing and replacing the badge.

** Click Here to submit a request for a new ID badge to be made for your child.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and efficient school environment for all our students. If you have any questions, please contact the main office.

Be mindful of the MMS arrival time, parents!

Tardy to School policy (from MMS Student / Parent Handbook):

The MMS tardy-to-school policy for the 2025-26 school year reads as follows:

1st, 2nd, 3rd Tardy - Parent Square notification from school to parents

4th & 5th Tardy - Lunch Detention assigned with notification from school

6th Tardy - Office Referral (assigned in-school-suspension OR after-school detention**)

(7th tardy+ resets to warnings --> lunch detentions --> office referrals)

Students must be in the building when the tardy bell rings at 7:55am to begin their school day. After 7:55am, student tardies will be logged and parents will be contacted for warnings. Parents will be notified via Parent Square message when their child is late to school. The above consequences will likely follow after the fact.

* Note: bus-riders on late buses are exempt from these consequences; that tardiness is an MGSD issue. If you need a bus route set up for your student, please click here to get more info about the MGSD Transportation department.

Parents: please be mindful of our 7:55am start time and help our Red Imps get to school on time each day so we can take advantage of every moment for learning!
