A Message from Mr. Kosal:

MMS is All Heart!

Greetings, Red Imp families! This is Mr. Patrick Kosal, your proud MMS principal. I had such a terrific surprise today: the MMS PTSO coordinated with alumni Vicki Yokeley (Mooresville Junior High, 1958 - 1960) on a donation of school newspapers from when she was in school. Editions of the Blue Imp Monthly student paper (yes, the Junior High students were the BLUE imps back then!) will be displayed in the MMS memorabilia case in our main hallway for all future generations of Red Imps to see and appreciate. Check out the photos below for examples of the records from that time!

A huge round of thanks go out to Ms. Yokeley and the Mooresville Middle School PTSO!! Here's what you'll find in this week's newsletter:

  • reminders for middle-schoolers about MHS football games
  • Truth Girlz after school club registration
  • Want MMS spirit gear?? The PTSO swag store is now OPEN online
  • latest ImpTV news broadcast
  • Fall Festival on 9/26 -- PTSO needs Vendors + Raffle Baskets
  • Truth Girlz after school club registration -- last chance!
  • Tardies to school policy
  • Credit by Demonstrated Mastery information
  • Launch for the weekend: Advice for Setting Screen Time Limits
  • and more!

Thanks for reading! If you have questions or concerns, please email our administration team or call the MMS front office. Have a wonderful weekend, Red Imp families!

MHS Friday Night Game protocols for home games:

- All elementary, intermediate, and middle school students WILL NOT be allowed entrance to a home football game without a supervising adult. Students must be supervised throughout the game.

- If any elementary, intermediate, or middle school student is unsupervised at the game, they are subject to removal. The student’s parent/guardian will be contacted to come pick them up.

- No bags will be allowed except medical and diaper bags, as well as clear stadium bags. Medical, diaper bags, and clear stadium bags will be subject to search.

- Walk through metal detectors will be utilized. If the detector goes off during your pass-through, we ask for your cooperation as we investigate what triggered the detector.

- For safety reasons, standing outside of the fence to watch the game is prohibited.

We are excited to support our students as the community comes together on Friday!

Important Reminder Regarding Student ID Badges:

Student ID badges are an essential part of daily school life, enabling students to quickly access essential services like purchasing lunch, using our library, and entering school-sponsored functions. Please ensure your child keeps their ID badge in a safe place.

* All new-to-MMS students (including this year's 6th graders) received an ID badge free of charge. However, in the event that a student's ID badge is lost or damaged, a replacement can be obtained for a fee of $2.00. This fee helps cover the cost of producing and replacing the badge.

** Click Here to submit a request for a new ID badge to be made for your child.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and efficient school environment for all our students. If you have any questions, please contact the main office.

Credit by Demonstrated Mastery information for parents:

The Fall window for Credit by Demonstrated Mastery application is now open. This CDM newsletter below will go out via ParentSquare to all 7th-11th grade families and counselors on Sept. 2. Applications are due to counselors by Friday, Sept. 19.

CDM allows students to “test out” of certain courses where they have already mastered the content. There are two phases:

  • In Phase 1 students take an EOC Exam / final exam equivalent for the course. Students who earn the required score advance to Phase 2.
  • In Phase 2, students complete a project to apply the skills and knowledge from the course.
  • Students who successfully complete both phases will receive “Pass” credit for the course on their transcript. "Pass" credits do not affect a student's GPA, but do count toward required graduation credits.

For more information, click here: CDM Newsletter

Parents: remember that no outside food / drinks may be brought into cafeteria

Reminders about students Walking to/from MMS:
  • Students crossing Kistler Farm Rd. must do so at the stoplight / crosswalk. It is hazardous and unsafe to cross at other locations along that busy road.
  • MMS staff will serve as crossing guards for students between 7:35 - 7:45am, and from 2:55 - 3:05pm. We ask that students cross during those times to ensure a staff member is present.
  • ONLY students with relatives that work at MIS / RRES may use the service road to walk to those locations. Students may not walk to other schools to join their car-rider lines.
  • MMS staff will be checking if students have submitted Walking Permission Forms to the main office starting next week. If your child does not have a permission slip on file, they'll be directed to use the office phone to call for a ride.

Thank you, parents, for your help in ensuring our students are safe and following school protocols when walking to / from school!

Parent Questions re: Bus Routes

The MGSD Transportation office is continuing to assign students to bus routes while also working to balance those routes & ensure capacities remain below limits. As new drivers join the staff, we will also add additional buses to help meet morning bell times.

All transportation requests must be initiated with the school’s data manager (at MMS... Ms. Shaneil Troutman). Once received, the request will enter the Transportation Dept.'s system the following day. After processing, the Transportation office will notify parents via ParentSquare.

** If parents are unhappy with their assigned stop location or have any transportation-related questions, they can email the MGSD Transportation office at mgsdtransrequest@mgsd.k12.nc.us, and we will respond as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience, parents!

Be mindful of the MMS arrival time, parents!

Tardy to School policy (from MMS Student / Parent Handbook):

The MMS tardy-to-school policy for the 2025-26 school year reads as follows:

1st, 2nd, 3rd Tardy - Parent Square notification from school to parents

4th & 5th Tardy - Lunch Detention assigned with notification from school

6th Tardy - Office Referral (assigned in-school-suspension OR after-school detention**)

(7th tardy+ resets to warnings --> lunch detentions --> office referrals)

Students must be in the building when the tardy bell rings at 7:55am to begin their school day. After 7:55am, student tardies will be logged and parents will be contacted for warnings. Parents will be notified via Parent Square message when their child is late to school. The above consequences will likely follow after the fact.

* Note: bus-riders on late buses are exempt from these consequences; that tardiness is an MGSD issue. If you need a bus route set up for your student, please click here to get more info about the MGSD Transportation department.

Parents: please be mindful of our 7:55am start time and help our Red Imps get to school on time each day so we can take advantage of every moment for learning!
