First School Dance... tonight!! (8/22)
The first MMS school dance of the year happens tonight (Fri. August 22) from 6 - 8:00pm in the MMS gymnasium! All students are eligible to attend, unless they're on the LoP (loss of privilege) list. The theme of the first dance is MMS is Back! -- wear MMS gear and school colors (red, white, black) to show your school spirit!
The cost to attend is $5 admission at the door, and concessions will be on sale all night also (cash only for concessions). Students should bring their Mooresville Middle ID cards to enter; only MMS students may attend the dance for safety reasons.
** Parents: the dance ends promptly at 8:00pm. All students MUST be picked up by 8:15pm or they could wind up on the Loss of Privilege list for quarter #1.
We hope to see lots and lots of Red Imps at the 1st dance next Friday night!

Important Reminder Regarding Student ID Badges:
Student ID badges are an essential part of daily school life, enabling students to quickly access essential services like purchasing lunch, using our library, and entering school-sponsored functions. Please ensure your child keeps their ID badge in a safe place.
* All new-to-MMS students (including this year's 6th graders) received an ID badge free of charge. However, in the event that a student's ID badge is lost or damaged, a replacement can be obtained for a fee of $2.00. This fee helps cover the cost of producing and replacing the badge.
** Click Here to submit a request for a new ID badge to be made for your child.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and efficient school environment for all our students. If you have any questions, please contact the main office.

Reminders about students Walking to/from MMS:
- Students crossing Kistler Farm Rd. must do so at the stoplight / crosswalk. It is hazardous and unsafe to cross at other locations along that busy road.
- MMS staff will serve as crossing guards for students between 7:35 - 7:45am, and from 2:55 - 3:05pm. We ask that students cross during those times to ensure a staff member is present.
- ONLY students with relatives that work at MIS / RRES may use the service road to walk to those locations. Students may not walk to other schools to join their car-rider lines.
- MMS staff will be checking if students have submitted Walking Permission Forms to the main office starting next week. If your child does not have a permission slip on file, they'll be directed to use the office phone to call for a ride.
Thank you, parents, for your help in ensuring our students are safe and following school protocols when walking to / from school!

|
Do you plan for your Red Imp student to walk to / from school? If so, MMS requires ALL students walking to / from campus to have a signed Walking form completed with main office. Click above to print & return OR stop by the main office to complete. Thank you for helping keep our students safe!

Stop Arm Violations Awareness -- reminder to the community
MGSD bus drivers have already witnessed multiple stop-arm violations across the district, including several occurring in parking lots during pick-up and drop-off times.
A reminder to parents and staff: Do not pass a stopped school bus if the stop arm is displayed — even in parking lots. Video cameras on MGSD buses make it easy to identify the culprits; our district and the Mooresville Police Department will prosecute these cases.

Parent Questions re: Bus Routes
The MGSD Transportation office is continuing to assign students to bus routes while also working to balance those routes & ensure capacities remain below limits. As new drivers join the staff, we will also add additional buses to help meet morning bell times.
All transportation requests must be initiated with the school’s data manager (at MMS... Ms. Shaneil Troutman). Once received, the request will enter the Transportation Dept.'s system the following day. After processing, the Transportation office will notify parents via ParentSquare.
** If parents are unhappy with their assigned stop location or have any transportation-related questions, they can email the MGSD Transportation office at mgsdtransrequest@mgsd.k12.nc.us, and we will respond as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience, parents!

Tardy to School policy (from MMS Student / Parent Handbook):
The MMS tardy-to-school policy for the 2025-26 school year reads as follows:
1st, 2nd, 3rd Tardy - Parent Square notification from school to parents
4th & 5th Tardy - Lunch Detention assigned with notification from school
6th Tardy - Office Referral (assigned in-school-suspension OR after-school detention**)
(7th tardy+ resets to warnings --> lunch detentions --> office referrals)
Students must be in the building when the tardy bell rings at 7:55am to begin their school day. After 7:55am, student tardies will be logged and parents will be contacted for warnings. Parents will be notified via Parent Square message when their child is late to school. The above consequences will likely follow after the fact.
* Note: bus-riders on late buses are exempt from these consequences; that tardiness is an MGSD issue. If you need a bus route set up for your student, please click here to get more info about the MGSD Transportation department.
Parents: please be mindful of our 7:55am start time and help our Red Imps get to school on time each day so we can take advantage of every moment for learning!

How to alert MMS of student absence:
The email address for parents to alert MMS about student absences is:
MMSAttendance@MGSD.k12.nc.us
Parents can upload doctor's notes as well. This process helps to avoid lost excuse notes!
|
|
Note: Students may have up to a maximum of 3 days per school year excused to take advantage of valid educational opportunities. Prior approval from either the Principal is required. Absences that are classified as a valid educational opportunity will be coded as “excused” whereas others will be coded as “unexcused.”
To make a request for prior approval, submit the above form to the Principal two weeks before the absence(s). The student is responsible for completing all missed work in addition to submitting a Student Educational Assignment as approved by the Principal in order to have the
absence coded as “excused.” All projects are due within 5 days of the student’s return to school.
