A Message from Mr. Kosal:
MMS is All Heart!
This is Mr. Kosal, proud MMS principal. Today, Mooresville Middle School was proud and delighted to recognize 245 students for either A/B Honor Roll or Principal's Cabinet (all A's). See below for a snippet from the MMS Student / Parent Handbook that outlines how that's determined. We provided each student with a certificate of achievement, a commemorative wristband, and tasty treats!
Parents, please continue to encourage your Red Imps to strive for academic excellence during the second semester. Students will again be honored at end-of-year Awards Ceremonies in May if they show just as much (or more) success in academics during Q3 and Q4. Congratulations, Red Imp scholars!
Here's what you'll find in this week's newsletter:
- MLK celebration, downtown Mooresville
- Hornets basketball game in January (PTSO event)
- PTSO supply drive for MMS classrooms

Cold Weather Coming Next Week!
MMS wanted to remind families about very cold temperatures heading our way next week. Please be sure students are appropriately dressed for the weather. If students use blankets while waiting for a bus, they'll be directed to bring them to their last class of the day so they're not left behind or a distraction to others.
Also, this is also a good opportunity to remind everyone to sign up for the Here Comes the Bus tracking app (Directions) if they have not done so. Anyone with a smartphone can sign up, including the students themselves.
Be safe & warm, Red Imps!

Reminder of Car-Rider Line procedures
Parents: it's mid-year and MMS still needs your help keeping our car-rider line moving safely and efficiently! Please remember the following things when dropping students off OR picking students up:
When lining up in the afternoons, please do not block traffic flow on Kistler Farm Road. The police department has asked our school and our parents to be mindful to keep the roadway traffic moving.
-
Do not stop to drop your student off by the awning -- we need cars to pull ALL THE WAY UP. Please follow the directions of the staff members on duty.
- In the afternoon, students waiting for their ride must remain behind the yellow safety line on the sidewalk and should wait until their car comes to a stop before approaching.
- It's great for students to socialize with friends, but they must stay alert and watch for their ride. When one car is excessively waiting, the whole line is impacted.
- Please remind students that the front lawn of the school is still school property and therefore our MGSD Student Code of Conduct and MMS school rules still apply.
Thanks for helping us make a safe and efficient car rider line this year at MMS!

MHS Parent Information Night (rising 9th graders)
Mooresville High School will be hosting a Parent Information Night for parents of students transitioning to 9th grade next school year (i.e. current 8th graders). This event is scheduled for Monday, January 27, 2025, in the MHS Performing Arts Center (PAC). The meeting will provide valuable information about the transition process to high school, extracurricular opportunities, and other key topics related to entering high school.
Additionally, MHS will host a drop-in event on the same day (1/27/25) for students and parents to explore electives, AP courses, and CTE classes (see the infographic below). This event is open to students in grades 8–11 and offers a great opportunity to begin planning for next year while discovering courses that align with their interests. We hope to see many families there!
So you're aware, registration at the high school runs from February 24–March 7, 2025.

Qualifications for Honor Roll at MMS:
Mr. Kosal apologizes for any confusion that came up regarding 1st semester Honor Roll students. Please continue to encourage your Red Imp student to work hard in classes; we'll celebrate kids again at the end of this school year for Q3 & Q4! From the MMS Student / Parent Handbook (link):
HONOR ROLL
Students will be recognized at the end of each semester for academic achievement via the MMS principal’s Honor Roll Cabinet. To be eligible for the honor roll, a student must meet the following criteria:
1. Principal’s Cabinet - All A’s for all quarterly report cards (no grade less than a 90 in any class).
2. A/B Honor Roll - All A’s / B’s for all quarterly report cards (no grades less than 80 in any class).
Students are encouraged to do their very best at all times but our school is eager to reward students demonstrating excellence in their academics!
