MGSD Communications for November 6th, 2020

Happy Friday MGSD families!

We need your help in ensuring we are keeping our students and staff safe and our schools running smoothly.  If a student or anyone in your household has had any of these symptoms (fever, chills, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, new cough, or new loss of taste or smell), it is strongly recommended that all students in the household stay home and quarantine for 10 days or until the symptomatic person is cleared by a negative Covid-19 test. We also ask that you notify your school nurse immediately if a student or anyone in your household has any possible Covid-19 symptoms or has any Covid-19 related absence.

A student who is out due to symptoms can return to school, following normal school policies:

  • Once 10 day quarantine has passed AND there is NO FEVER without the use of fever-reducing medicines and they have felt well for 24 hours.    OR

  • Documentation of a negative Covid PCR test OR confirmation of an alternative diagnosis from a health care provider that would explain the COVID-19-like symptom(s) AND there is NO FEVER without the use of fever-reducing medicines and they have felt well for 24 hours.

If a student is out due to any COVID-19 symptoms, they cannot return to school until they have completed the Health Attestation form again.  This form needs to be completed each time the student is out ill or with symptoms or exposure to Covid-19.

In addition to the above request, we wanted to let you know that the Dashboard will be updated each Tuesday and Friday.  At this time, we are tracking Positive cases, Quarantines due to being considered a Close Contact, and Quarantines due to exhibiting symptoms.  Dashboards can be finicky when it comes to filtering, etc, so we certainly appreciate your patience.  As a reminder, the Dashboard can be found on our website or you can bookmark this link:  MGSD COVID-19 Date Dashboard.  Of course, we are receiving constant information so if there is an outbreak of COVID-19 positive individuals at a particular school, we will let the parents and staff at that school know as soon as the Iredell County Health Department releases that information to us.  If a staff or student tests positive and it is found that they were at school while potentially contagious, a letter will go out to staff and parents of that school.  The letter will also indicate whether there were any confirmed close contacts to the individual while at school.

Finally, don't forget that there will be no school for our students this Wednesday, November 11, in honor of our Veterans!  Make sure to thank a Veteran if you know or meet one!

Thank you again for your support.  We have certainly enjoyed seeing our students again in person!  Have a wonderful weekend and remember to stay safe!
